The delightful colors of this limited edition series of silicone starter jar bands highlights a trio of microbes that are best kept on the outside of your starter jar. 

Feed your starter regularly and use clean tools to keep these bad bugs at bay.

Use these bands to mark the height of your starter in the jar, to judge the increase in volume and to help know when your starter is ready for baking.

These three bad bugs also gently remind us to keep a backup of our starter in the fridge or in a dehydrated form in case of trouble.

• Pink Streaks - inspired by Serratia Marcescens

Warning: If you see the Pink (or Orange or Red) streaks of Serratia Marcescens, it is time to toss your starter and go to a back up. When in doubt, throw it out!
